Clement Biddle 1740-1814 The Quaker General organized and led the Quaker Blues against the British and fought under Nathanial Greene as well. D.S. 3pp. folio, Philadelphia, Sep. 15, 1787, a lengthy full power of attorney given by Biddle to four men, including Charles Pettit 1736-1806 American Revolution patriot and financier, who also signs. In rough condition with fold splits crudely repaired, some foxing and toning, and a few marginal chips. Despite all, still presentable and signatures are untouched. E150-250 James Bowdoin 1726 1790 Governor of Massachusetts who put down Shay's Rebellion, a close scientific associate of Benjamin Franklin and founder and the first member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Important D.S. 1p. folio, Boston, Oct. 11, 1780 advising Increase Sumner of his election as state senator. In part: ... You being Chosen a Senator for this Commonwealth, are hereby in the Name of the Government and people of the Massachusetts Bay in New England summoned to attend and assist at a General Court... under the new Constitution of Government for the said Commonwealth. Increase Sumner 1746-1799 was a member of the Massachusetts convention to determine a form of government served in the Constitutional Convention and was three times elected as Governor of Massachusetts. Some foxing, one small stain in text.
