Fine content A.L.S. as a prisoner of war, 1p. 4to., Johnson's Island, Ohio, Mar. 9, 1864 to Miss Kate M. Mofit explaining that he has: "...been up night and day for several days attending on a very intimate friend who has been extremely ill for over two months. The all-wise 'Providence' put an end to his intense suffering yesterday morning by calling him home. You can have no idea of the horrors attending the death bed of a prisoner so far away from his dear parents and friends and to listen to his repeated calls for his mother. Although I have been in the Army for nearly 3 years & seen so many dead men, I never yet have seen one died until now, and it was the most awful ordeal that I have ever passed through or ever expect to...".
