(1821 - 1878) Union major general who fought in the defense of Washington, at Fair Oaks, and Suffolk. Early A.E.S. on the verso of a "List of Absentees" missing for duty from the 102nd Penn. Vols., and 55th New York Vols., totaling 38 persons, 1p. 4to., Tenallytown, D.C., Nov. 27, 1861, a recording docket, in full: "This paper is in response to a Circular from Division Head Qurs. Parties have been sent to the City and in other quarters for these men. Every thing is being done to reduce the ill results of pay day with the Volunteers. John J. Peck Brig Genl Comdg". Hastily penned in a fine hand, overall very good condition.
