JOHN FITZGERALD Aide to George Washington and a co-director of Washington's Potomack Company. A.L.S. 1p. legal folio, Alexandria, Dec. 13, 1784 to fellow Washington aide Tench Tilghman. In part: "...if you choose to take the Tob[acc]o from Aquia & the Six Hogsheads from on board the Washington...I would wish it to be delivered to [signer of the Constitution] Mr. Daniel Carroll & the other 6 Hogsheads reserved for my further orders. I received your letter by Post & Stage...I hope you [will] be able to procure payment for me, indeed I think no debt should sooner be paid...I hope Captain Stickney is with you by this time. I shall write him by this stage...". Docketed by Pinckney on verso. Split at central fold mended with archival tape on verso, a few marginal chips with a seal tear costing a few words of text, still overall very good.
