Description:

John Armstrong 1758-1843 Revolutionary War soldier and aide to generals Mercer and Gates. The distribution of his Newburg letters , citing wrongs done unto soldiers and calling for organized action, alarmed Washington who took steps to avoid any insurrection. D.S. 1p. folio, Philadelphia, April 8, 1786, a partly printed Supreme Executive Council appointment of Persifor Frazer as Register of Probate, attested to by Armstrong. Light dampstain along central vertical fold not affecting signature.
