JOHN ADAMS
(1735 - 1826) Second President of the United States and a drafter of the Declaration of Independence, which he also signed. He later joined Franklin and Jay to negotiate peace with Great Britain. Partly printed D.S., signed twice on verso "J. Adams" and "Adams", and filled-out mostly in his hand on recto, 1p. oblong 4to., Boston, Apr. 17, 1773, a legal document concerning the case of Samuel Partridge, a Boston merchant against John Hinks for the recovery of ten pounds sterling. Adams writes, in small part: "...Samuel Partridge...on the Twenty Eighth day of last December [sic] drew his certain order in Writing under his hand...addressed and directed to the said John Hinks Esqr. and therein and thereby requested the said John, at ten days after... to pay the said Samuel or order Ten Pounds Seven Shillings Sterling (meaning lawful [sic] money of Great Britain) being the amount of the Bill due to him... John Hinks tho often requested has never paid the sum...nor the Interest...". Lightly toned at vertical folds and top margin, else very good. From the B.T. Fredericks Collection.
