JOHN A. WASHINGTON
(1821 - 1861) Great grandnephew of George Washington and the last Washignton to own Mount Vernon. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he joined the staff of Robert E. Lee and was killed on a reconnoitering mission in the Cheat Mountains. Book, signed "John A. Washington of Mount Vernon Virginia 1834" on the front pastedown (as well as three additional times on the blank flyleaf beneath his ownership stamp) on his copy of John Grove's A Greek and English Dictionary... (Boston: Hilliard, Gray, Little, and Wilkins, 1833), 616 + 102 pp., 8vo., bound in leather boards with titled spine. Scuffing and rubbing to boards and spine, pages moderately foxed, else very good.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items are not shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arrange through the auction house.
