Description:

JEROME BONAPARTE OWNED SILVER TABLEWARE (2)
JEROME BONAPARTE (1784-1860) King of Westphalia, French marshal and brother of Napoleon Bonaparte, distinguished himself at Waterloo and in 1852 was made President of the French Senate. Pair of very rare pieces of sterling silver tableware once owned and used by Bonaparte, includes a heavy spoon and four-tined fork, each 8 3/8 in. long. Each is decorated with a relief design of a lion's head and crossed paws on the front, with the same design as well as Bonaparte's large coat of arms as Marshal of France on the reverse. The pieces are heavily hallmarked including a rooster (1798-1809), the First Empire hallmark of the great goldsmith of Napoleon Bonaparte, Martin-Guillaume Biennais (1764-1843). Biennais was responsible for the execution of the insignia of Napoleon's coronation ceremony, the sword, the laurel wreath, the great necklace of the legion of honor, the Grand-Septre, the ball of the world and the hand of justice. The work that made him famous in his time was the silver cradle made for the Napoleon II. From the personal collection of one of the world's largest private collections devoted to the French Revolution and Napoleon I, as well as the First and Second World Wars.
