Description:

JEAN-VICTOR MOREAU(1763 - 1813) French general in the Revolutionary and Napoleonic armies. He later headed the Republican conspiracy against Napoleon, for which he was exiled. Scarce A.L.S. "V. Moreau" 2pp. 4to., New York, May 18, 1813, to a gentleman towards the end of his stay in the United States. In part: "...The latest news from England and France announce great preparation for war and propositions for peace by means of Austria as [the] intermediary...". Moreau adds that he does not believe France will be conquered, nor that certain other cities will ever be part of the Napoleonic empire. Finally, he concludes by criticizing Parliament's proclamation against the Bourbons. Very good condition, and a scarce example.
