(1725 - 1807) French Marshall who commanded French forces sent to aid the Americans in the Revolutionary War. With Washington, he was essential in the defeat of Cornwallis at Yorktown. Manuscript L. S. "le Cte de Rochambeau" 1p. legal folio, Nancy, Aug. 25, 1771, in French regarding military matters, in part: "...We, the second Lieutenant Colonel First Captain Commander of the detachment of the corps of the French Grenadiers at Nancy...certify that the man named Nicolas Didelot...started serving on 3 March 1753 with the Royal Grenadiers...made a sergeant in 1754...he is to receive a sergeant's half pay...and all privileges granted invalids who retire in the provinces...". With original red wax seal, overall very good condition, with just slight marginal toning and wear.
