Description:

(JAPANESE ATROCITIES IN CHINA)
A graphic and disturbing pair of photographs, each measuring 5" x 3 1/2" b/w. The first shows a Chinese man in the middle of the street, on his knees, arms bound behind his back, being beheaded by a Japanese soldier. Someone has added a note on the verso: "Execution of Bandits look close. I believe it is the most marvelous pictures of its kind. The head has not fallen yet and the blood is spreading...". The second photograph shows another individual who had just been beheaded by a Chinese executioner in the street. The images likely date from the mid to late 1930s in Manchuria. Photos bear a few slight creases otherwise very good condition. For obvious reasons we have not illustrated these disturbing images, but we can provide copies upon request.
