JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY
(1849 - 1916) American poet, author of such works as "The Old Swimmin' Hole" among others. Fine A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Indianpolis, Sept. 7, 1888, on letterhead of The New Denison Hotel to Mr. Barbe, likely W.T.W. Barbe of the Parkersburg Daily State Journal. In part: "...Answering your kindly invitation for some verse contribution, permit me, as well, to wish your very interesting journal a prosperity as enduring as deserved - judging from the copy you are good enough to send me. Hope to see it steadily...Your contributors list is blessed with lovely characters - none lovelier, or nobler, than Robert Burns Wilson.". Very good. Robert Burns Wilson (1850-1916) was a popular painter and poet, known as "the poet of the Bluegrass State". Very good.
