JAMES MADISON
(1751-1836) Fourth President of the United States considered the "Father of the Constitution", he authored the Federalist papers and sponsored the Bill of Rights. Partly-printed D.S. 1p. folio, Washington, Feb. 17, 1815, a scallop-top ship's passport, countersigned by JAMES MONROE as Secretary of State. The passport was issued to Samuel P. Montgomery of the brig John Burgwin. With intact paper seal at bottom left. Some cockling, light dampstain at right margin, else very good. Matted with a small portrait of Madison.
