(1795 - 1849) Eleventh President of the United States who led the country during the Mexican-American War, and secured the territories of Oregon and Washington. A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Columbia, Oct. 2, 1844 to General Armstrong at Nashville requesting he "...Procure & send to me the Journals of the House of Representatives for the Sessions of 1823 & 1824. They can be had in the Secretary of State's Office...". With integral address leaf addressed in Polk's hand, marked "Free" at top right in another hand. Tears from seal tear and light damp stain to address leaf, the letter bears the usual folds and otherwise in fine condition. From the B. T. Fredericks collection.
