Stiles Garfield is clearly concerned about the Republican Party split into factions led by himself and Roscoe Conkling. He writes I presume my enemies will try to make some disturbance in the Convention I dont think it will amount to much but I hope our friends will see to it that they do not get a foot hold. and asks Stiles for the state of feeling As he predicted the Convention was uneventful and Garfield was easily re-elected.
