Description:

JACK RUBY'S COURT-ORDERED ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPH
JACK RUBY (1911 - 1967) Dallas nightclub owner who shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald following Oswald's assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. A rather bizarre and certainly unique relic from Ruby's trial for the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald, namely a portion of Ruby's original court-ordered electroencephalograph, conducted by Dr. John Holbrook at the request of Dallas District Attorney Henry Wade. The readings show the nine wavy lines standard in an EEG, on lined graph paper measuring 36" x 8", taken on January 28-29, 1964 at a Dallas clinic. The EEG is accompanied by a letter of provenance signed by Azalea Holbrook, Dr. Holbrook's widow. Ruby's defense team unsuccessfully tried to prove Ruby was insane when he shot Oswald, by arguing that Ruby had a very rare form of psychomotor epilepsy; this condition is characterized by incidents of rage accompanied with amnesia during the event, which can theoretically be detected on an EEG. Included with the lot is a typed D.S., 1p., 4to., Dallas, January 21, 1964, a legal agreement between Ruby's defense and Dallas prosecutors for the EEG, signed by: PHIL BURLESON, TOM HOWARD, HENRY WADE, WILLIAM ALEXANDER JOE TONAHILL and MELVIN BELLI. Also included are facsimiles of Dr. Frederic Gibbs' findings, dated February 4, 1964, in part: "...the two electroencephalographic recordings that you have sent me which were made in your laboratory on Jack Ruby both show seizure discharges of the psychomotor variant type...", and an opposing opinion from Dr. Robert Schwab dated March 9, 1964.
