Description:

'J'-STAMPED PASSPORT OF AN GERMAN BUSINESSMAN AND HIS FAMILY
Very rare passport issued to a German business manager from Breslau named Dr. Wilhelm Konigsberger (34), his wife Erna (31), and three children, two living at the time the passport was issued, ages 9 and 6, and one born a year after the passport was issued in Breslau on Mar. 27, 1934. The 'reisepass' bears a large, red 'J' on the first page and was valid for five years. It still bears identification photographs of the couple, and also includes particulars on both and those of his daughters within. This is a very difficult passport to decipher as it contains extensive visa and banking details for both parents. There are multiple entries from banks and many visas issued for inter-European travel, with mentions of Poland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and Lithuania. We suspect that the couple was making every effort possible to avoid having the Germans confiscate their assets as was generally the case with those emigrating from Germany and Austria. Finally, on Nov. 24, 1938 a British visa to land in England while en route to Australia. On Dec. 17, 1938 they land in Dover, and on Feb. 6, 1939 they pass customs in Fremantle, Australia. Cover loose, else fine.
