Description:

ISABELLA I
(1451 - 1504) "Isabella the Catholic", Queen of Spain (1474-1504) who with husband Ferdinand V fought and expelled the Moors in 1492, established the Inquisition and most famously approved and financed Columbus' proposal to seek out a new route to Far East. Rare manuscript D.S. "Yo el Reyna", 3pp. legal folio, Seville, June 16, 1500, in Old Spanish ordering her Chamberlain, Sancho de Parades, to pay shearmen and tailors, all mentioned by name, for cutting cloth of various fabrics (silk, velvet, wool, linen, etc.) and of different colors to make clothing for"...don Pedro de Granada and Hernando Enriquez de Pequeni and other of their servants...". A lengthy list of the vendors continues and goes into great detail about the types of material to be used, as well as the budget breakdown for each merchant. On the third page, Isabella orders payment to Parades "...5,725 maravedis to pay for the shearing and making of the garments...ordered to be given to those that became Christian..., adding, on the fourth page: "...700 Reales given by the King's Treasurer [Gabriel Sanches, who was said to be a converted Jew] in Seville...given to Ochoa 5,000 maravedis for the workmanship of various garments for the Moors that became Christians...". Very good to fine condition, with full English translation as well as transcription into contemporary Spanish.
