IMPORTANT WHEELER'S CAVALRY CIRCULAR
Rare broadside measuring 3 1/2" x 11", printed on a field printing press, dated June 3, 1863. Titled at top: "Head Quarters Wheeler's Cavalry Corps., General Orders No. 7", putting forth seven important principals for his cavalry and scouts to follow in making reports of the enemy's position and movements. In part: "...1. The earnest attention of all Cavalry is called to the importance of their observing the utmost accuracy in their reports...II. The commanding General of this Army relies solely upon the information received from Cavalry...inaccuracies in their reports may entail great disasters...IV. Officers who hold the enemy in observation during his advance, will report at least every twenty minutes...", and so forth. Concluding: "...Cavalry Officers and Soldiers must always remember that they are the eyes and ears of the General commanding, and without frequent and correct intimations from them regarding the enemy, his disposition must be faulty and his success by no means certain...". Light toning, else near fine condition.
