Description:

HIROSHIMA HEAT-DEFORMED BRONZE VASE
Bronze vase, 14 3/4" tall, 8 1/4" wide with pastoral Japanese mountain views in relief on both sides, recovered at Hiroshima and showing obvious signs of blast damage. The vase, weighing about 12 lbs., no longer rests straight on its base. One side shows three holes, the largest hole near the base, with the metal at each site not punctured but bearing a melted appearance. Directly beneath the large melted hole appears a small accumulation of bronze which melted and adhered to the inside of the vase. The body of the vase on the same side is indented, and wherever there is relief work on the vase as it lies on its side, we see signs of melting. Within, the same side of the vase shows many cracks with "weeping" of metal, whereas the side of the vase resting on the ground at the time of the blast shows none of the above traits. There is a round lid with the vase, which if original to the piece clearly shows the amount of deformation. We are certain there is no person short of a metallurgist/physics expert who could contrive an item with this amount of forensic evidence.Requires third-party shipping.
