Description:

HIROSHIMA BLAST-AFFECTED FIGURINE
An evocative relic from one of the most controversial events in the world's military history, a 7" tall cast clay figure of a delicate Japanese lady in a floral kimono standing with her arms before her holding a parasol. Horrifyingly, the statue shows clear and obvious signs of intense heat: paint is melted, and scorch marks are evident in the lower area of the figurine's kimono. This effect would simply by impossible to reproduce with a flame or kiln. The bottom of the figure bears black block lettering in a period hand: "HIROSHIMA JAPAN ATOMIC BOMB AREA". Incredibly, this delicate item survived the incredible destruction and resulting firestorm caused by the blast. From the personal collection of World War II and Civil War historian Michael Miner. Miner's thirty-year collection was built through an extensive system of contacts he developed with artifact hunters and diggers in Europe and the Far East, and he maintained careful records of the items he amassed.
