Description:

HERMANN GORING
(1893 - 1946) German politician who began his career as an ace in World War I, rose to become Hitler's right-hand man and head of the Luftwaffe, finally captured and committed suicide on the eve of his execution. Fine content war-date T.L.S. on his Reichsmarshall letterhead, 1p. 4to., Berlin, July 20, 1942 to Dr. L. Nolte. Goring writes concerning the management of the electronics giant Philips in Eindhoven, which since the invasion of Holland had been under the control of German-appointed directors Bormann and Merkel. Goring is dissatisfied with their performance, and writes: "...In view of the slow development and changed state of affairs I ask you to take over the previous scope of work of the men...and all Philips orders...and appoint you herewith to the trustee enterprises...". Nolte took over, running the firm with an iron fist. The Germans were dependent on Philips for electronics, especially radio equipment, and not surprisingly employees of the firm were intent on sabotaging production. Prior to the invasion of Holland, management fled with the company's cash, with only Frits Philips remaining. He would save the lives of 382 Jews by indicating to the Nazis that they were indispensable for the production process at Philips. Philips would later be awarded recognition as a "Righteous Among the Nations". Near fine.
