Description:

HENRY HOLLAND, JR.
(1704-1782) American politician and officer in King George's War. Rare manuscript L.S "Hen Holland", 1p. legal folio, Oct. 13, 1746, to the justices and the constables of the township of Schnectady, in part: "...As his Majesties Service Requires a Large Number of Waggons Men and horses you and each of you are hereby Required and Commanded in his Majesties name to Impress All the Waggons (that is two horses and one Man to a Waggon) that are within Your Precinct so that they may be in the City of Albany, on Thursday next to Transport his Majesties Troops on the Intended Expedition against Canada...ect.". Fines were to be levied on those refusing to serve, and they were to be prosecuted. This planned military expedition was part of what was known in America as "King George's War", 1744-1748, one of several wars fought between Britain and France in the eighteenth century. Aside from the usual folds and a few marginal chips and tears, the document remains in very good condition. An interesting, early document from one of the numerous aborted attempts to conquer Canada.
