Description:

HENRY "HECK" THOMAS
(1850 - 1912) Frontier lawman employed by "Hanging Judge" Parker, Thomas was a deadly lawman who, with Bill Tilghman cleaned up "Hell's Half Acre", killed Bill Doolin, shot Ned Christie, and arrested over three hundred outlaws in a three year period. Rare A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Anadarko, Oklahoma Territory, Oct. 24, 1900, Thomas writes as Marshal to H. E. Sisson in Utah, in part: "...Please allow me to send for another warrant for John Trimble. I have warrant 5281 for him...He is a hard man & I would rather have the enclosed warrant [not present] when I make the arrest...Please have it approved & docketed...I will return all Subpoenas served tomorrow night...". Sesson writes a 6-line note on verso asking if the offense is "...different from that described in warrant #5281...", and Thomas replies at bottom: "...This is an entirely different offense...outside that I have other cases against him...". Boldly penned, fine condition.
