Description:

HENRY FORD, CHARLES LINDBERGH AND GEORGE EASTMAN!
A superb grouping of signatures on a 8" x 5" sheet gathered during the Edison Scholarship Awards Ceremony at the Interior Department's Edison National Site on July 29, 1929. Signatories, from top to bottom, are: photography pioneer GEORGE EASTMAN, LEWIS PERRY, headmaster of Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, S. W. STRATTON, Chairman of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Corporation, HENRY FORD, and CHARLES LINDBERGH and his wife ANNE MORROW LINDBERGH. At top is noted "Mrs. Sloane" in another hand. According to a May 14, 1980 letter [included] from the Acting Supervisor of the United States Department of the Interior to John Edison Sloan, likely a relative of Mrs. Sloan: "...the list of names indicates the signatures were probably included in a distinguished guests book at the time of the July 29, 1929 Edison Scholarship Awards Ceremony...Stratton was on the judges' panel for the awards, along with George Eastman, Lewis Perry...Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh. Mrs. Lindbergh was with her husband at the ceremony...". Also included is an original 5" x 3" sepia snapshot showing a group of distinguished attendees which includes Charles Lindbergh, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, and several others not identified. A 1" tear at bottom margin is just shy of affecting Anne Linbergh's signature; two rusted paper clip impressions at top margin, else very good. Ford's ordinarily small signature is more than 2" in this example! A great assemblage of titans of twentieth-century America.
