HENRY ‘HAP' ARNOLD'S AIR CORPS PROP AND WINGS
HENRY ‘HAP' ARNOLD (1886 - 1950) American general, commander of the Army Air Force through most of World War II, responsible for instituting the daylight bombing raids on Germany. A great personal relic from Arnold, namely a pair of his silver Air Corps Propeller and Wings pins, sent to a young man for a class project. The pins,1.75 in. x 1.25 in., are housed in a mustard-yellow velvet clamshell case with a shield insignia on the interior. Composed of sterling silver and fully intact, with pin functional. Accompanied by a letter of provenance in the form of a T.L.S. of Arnold, 1p. 4to., Sonoma, April 4, 1949, to ‘Kenneth'. Arnold writes, in part: ‘…As to your request for some more items of mine for your class project, took some time, as most of my things have went here and there. But I did locate a pair of old silver Air Corps propeller & wings, which might be of some use to you. If I should come across anything else I thenk [sic] you might like I will send it on to you. I am sure I won't as all is gone except what I have kept for burial...'. Both letter and wings are in very good to fine condition.
