Description:

HELEN KELLER
(1880 - 1968) American author who overcame her lack of sight, speech and hearing to write inspirational accounts of her life. Very fine content T.L.S. "Helen Keller" in her typical pencil, 2pp. 4to., San Francisco, June 14, 1925, to Dr. Baer. Keller pens an emotive letter of thanks, in part: "...Beautiful and tender and grateful are my thoughts of you! I cannot tell you in words how deeply I appreciate all that you did, and are doing to help me in my work for the blind of America; but every throb of my heart is a thank-you...You are one of those rare beings who go about whatever they undertake whole-heartedly, and your enthusiasm inspires confidence in others. No one...has presented the cause of the blind with such immense humanity, eloquence and commonsense as you did at our meetings in Pasadena...We have found no such champion in San Francisco. We have begged at the door at many distinguished citizens of the Golden Gate City, and have been sent on our way with courteous refusal...We are leaving here Tuesday for Cleveland, which I am to attend two conventions. I shall speak before the American Association for the Blind and the International Lions Club. I want especially to interest the Lions in my work. It would be splendid if they would assume the role of Knights of the Blind in my crusade against darkness!...". Mailing folds and offsetting to trimmed edges, otherwise very good condition.
