Description:

HE-111 BOMBER PILOT'S FLIGHT LOG
Flight log of a Luftwaffe pilot in command of an He-111 two-engine bomber, approx. 80pp. oblong 8vo., commencing May 31, 1940 with the last entry on Sep. 19, 1941. The pilot's name is indistinguishable, as are many of his entries to a non-German speaker, but we have been able to glean a good amount of information nonetheless. The pilot, Gefr. Frits Freistner[?], flies a total of 184 flights. Before commencing this log, he must have already had a good amount of flight training, as the flights before entering combat show him at the controls of planes including the Ju-52, Do-17, Ju-87, Fw-58, and He-111, these flights largely within Germany. On Aug. 15, 1941 he begins bombing attacks on Minsk and other cities in Ukraine, and the fragmentary comments translated show he encountered flak and other enemy fire, attacks on his aircraft by armed reconnaissance aircraft, attacks made on tank formations, etc. Overall very good, worthy of complete translation.
