Description:

HANS JUTTNER(1894 - 1965) Head of the SS's Main Leadership Office and also an SS Obergruppenführer, responsible for building the many prisoner of war camps in which Soviet prisoners of war were held. Jailed for four years. Excellent typed D.S., 2pp. 4to., [n.p., n.d., but Berlin, ca. Oct. 9, 1944], a recommendation that SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Hans Juttner be awarded the Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords. Of great importance is the fact that this document was prepared with the 'Fuhrer's typewriter', a large-font typewriter exclusively used for documents submitted to Hitler for reading, due to his worsening eyesight. The recommendation reads in part: '...In April 1935 I admitted then SA-Sturmbannführer Hans Jüttner to SS-VT and, due to his exceptional performance, later appointed him to the staff of SS-VT...he has always been an excellent colleague to me since joining the Waffen-SS as a staunch National Socialist...out of nowhere he created the foundation for building the weapons...On April 20, 1941 I distinguished him by appointing him Chief of Staff at the Fuhrungshauptsamst. In this position, too, I got to know Jüttner as an extremely reliable and hardworking person, whose outstanding organizational skills I myself had to acknowledge. On January 30, 1943, Juttner was appointed head of the SS leadership main office by the Führer...' Signed at conclusion by one of Juttner's one-time superiors who we have been unable to identify. File holes and an SS docket at top, else very good. Juttner was given the award effective Oct. 30, 1944.
