Description:

GREGORY "PAPPY" BOYINGTON
(1912 - 1988) American military aviator with 28 "kills", his "Black Sheep" squadron harassed Japanese forces in the Solomons late in the war. Fine content, acerbic A.L.S. "Pappy" penned at the conclusion of a T.L.S. written to him from a purchaser of a print by Robert Carlin depicting two of Boyington's victories in the Pacific, Oct. 26, 1986, responding to his request to sign said print. Boyington angrily replies: "...For months on end I have been literally inundated by requests like yours. I am up in my seventies and not in the best of health. I have been spending an average of eight hours daily trying to keep people like yourself happy. In this case you have purchased a print of an artist who has deliberately screwed me out of several hundreds of dollars, and I would be a complete fool if I autographed it...P.S.: No more PLEASE...". Very good condition.
