Description:

GREGORI RASPUTIN
(1872 - 1916) Popular Russian mystic and favorite in the court of Czar Nicholas II. Gained influence over the family through his apparent success in relieving their son's hemophilia. Killed by a group of Russian noblemen in an effort to rid Russia of his influence. Very rare and desirable A.Q.S. in pencil on an 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" sheet of graph paper, translated into German in a note at bottom: "The mothers of children, they are sacred Gregori", and dated Nov. 21, 1915 in St. Petersburg. A second note in Danish at bottom may indicate provenance. Along with a contemporary note in Danish mentioning a Dr. Moritz Blomenthal and "Russia 1915", with a period envelope docketed "with Rasputin's signature", and on verso: "bought at Stockholm's Auktionswerk ca. 1983". Folds and foxed mounting remnants at corners, very good.
