756. JOHN GRAHAM (1774-1820) American diplomat. He was Thomas Jefferson's confidential agent in thwarting Aaron Burr's designs for western expansion. A.L.S., 2pp. 4to., Washington, Mar. 14, 1810 to James Anderson who was seeking a consular appointment. Graham informs Anderson that "the unsettled and embarrassed state of our Relations with France & England preventing the President [Jefferson] from making any consular appointments in either of those countries...Should you not be disposed to wait - point out to me the place you wish to go to and I will...[mention] the Subject to the Secretary of State..."
