GOUVERNOR K. WARREN
(1830 - 1882) Union major general who fought at Antietam, Fredericksburg, and at Gettysburg, where he is credited with saving the Union left flank from being rolled up by a Confederate attack on Little Round Top. Rare war-date E.S. signed on the verso of a partly-printed 1p. folio Inspection Report, Culpeper, Apr. 12, 1864, executed by Lieut. Col. D. Allen of the 12th Mass. Regt. and listing worn-out whips and other horse supplies from the quartermaster's stores. On the verso, Warren signs an approval penned in another hand: ‘…Hd. Qrs. 5th Corps April 15, 1864. Approved. The stores within condemned will be disposed of as recommended by the Inspector. G. K. Warren Major Genl Comdg'. Folds, one small burn to central fold, otherwise boldly signed and very good.
