Wilson Tweed Hartz, on Office of Commissary General of Prisoners letterhead, Washington, D. C., Oct. 2, 1863 to Surg. Cyrus N. Chamberlain in charge U. S. Hospital, Gettysburg, Pa., concerning the release of a Confederate soldier captured during the battle of Gettysburg. In part: "...In pursuance of instructions received from the Secretary of War...[Pvt.] Tobias Duvall [2nd Maryland CSA Infantry] a prisoner of war now confined at [Camp Letterman] Hospital Gettysburg [is to] be released on taking the Oath of Allegiance...".
