Description:

GERMAN FIRE OFFICIAL''S SABER BY ALCOSO
Scarce inter-war saber, 29" blade, 3 1/4" overall, as carried by German fire officials, with a hilt of unadorned fire-gilt brass consisting of a plain dove''s head-style pommel, a swelled hand guard, and a full backstrap with tabs. The grip is of black celluloid wrapped with three strands of braided brass wire. A leather finger loop showing some minor cracking is attached within the hand guard, with a brown leather washer at the base of the ricasso. The brass shows moderate patina and the wire wrapping of the grip is slightly loose in places. The ricasso itself bears the "scales" trademark of the Alexander Coppel firm of Solingen. The blade is unengraved and unsharpened, and remains very bright with very faint run marks at the ricasso and speckling near the tip. The saber is housed in a black-painted steel scabbard with a single suspension ring and no fittings. It shows some bubbling, scratches and wear to the paint overall, but is perfectly straight with no dents or other damage. Very good overall.
