Description:

GERMAN ARMY GENERAL'S LEATHER GREATCOAT
Large, impressive heavy-duty German general's brown leather greatcoat. The double-breasted coat closes with two parallel sets of gold metal pebbled buttons at front, all of which appear original to the garment and are secured with split rings as should be the case. Sleeves terminate in 5 1/2" cuffs with elastic windproof inner sleeves. A pair of very well-used general's shoulder boards are sewn to the jacket at one end and secured with a weathered gold button at the other - the weathering of these shoulder boards makes if obvious that they are original to the coat. At waist height appear slash pockets on either side, one with a tear was professionally mended. The belt on the back of the coat is intact and also secured with two gold buttons. A small tear where it meets the coat has also been mended. Within, the lining of the coat, an off-gold rayon, shows wear consistent with age and heavy use. Overall, it's clear that the general who wore this coat was no "desk jockey" - this garment has seen a great deal of heavy use, probably in the field.
