Description:

GEORGIA FATHER SENDING SENDS SON TO MASSACHUSETTS (6)
A grouping of six letters written by A. H. Jones, a civilian living in Augusta, Ga., written between Apr. 17, 1860 and July 25, 1861, concerning his son whom he sent to Massachusetts to live with a family friend. Most of the content of these letters concerns the well-being of his son Edgar in the care of his friend in Massachusetts, William Porter. Some of the highlights from the grouping read, in part: ‘…I fear we have terrible times before us but hope it will not last long…', on Apr. 25, 1861, written only a week after the war erupted with Fort Sumter: ‘…May God avert the impending storm – if things should…we will still continue to write you occasionally and get it to you by some conveyance – there is not much excitement here one would hardly realize that we are in a state of war…' Lightly stained, otherwise very good. Worth a bit of research.
