GEORGI K. ZHUKOV
(1896 - 1974) Soviet Field Marshal, perhaps the greatest general of World War II, he survived crushing poverty and Stalin's purges to command the Russian armies at the monumental battles of Moscow and Kursk, and in the taking of Berlin. Lengthy typed D.S. 5pp. legal folio, [n.p., 1945], a recommendation in Cyrillic for a Russian navigator, Captain Petr Alekseyevich Kozlenko, to be awarded Hero of the Soviet Union for his operations during World War II. Kozlenko, born in 1916, was a navigator in the 24th Air Squadrom of the Orlov, and a portion of the recommendation spells out his achivievements (translation included). Signed at conclusion by Zhukov, as well as five others: Col. FEDOROV, Maj. Genl. of Aviation KARAVATSKI, Commander of Army Air Corps, Col. RUDENKO, and Member of the Military Council of the Soviet Occupation Troops in Germany, Lt. Genl. TELEMIN. With an original photograph of Zozlenko, wear to margins and pinholes thereon from disbinding, overall very good condition.
