Description:

GEORGE WASHINGTON
(1732 - 1799) First President of the United States and commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Partly-printed D.S. Go: Washington as President, 1p. sm. folio, [Philadelphia, ca. August, 1794], a three-language ship's paper in English, French and Dutch issued to the schooner Salem Packet, Joshua Eldridge, master, bound from Alexandria to Oporto laden with a cargo of "Indian Corn & Flour". Co-signed by Secretary of State EDMUND RANDOLPH (1753-1813), who also served as the country's first Attorney General. Some damp staining at upper-right slightly affects text, much lighter stain at left, marginal chips at left margin, both seals present and Washington and Randolph's signatures are uncommonly fine and bold, though Washington's signature bears a very clean cancellation slit. Attractively double-matted with a portrait of the Commander in Chief, with brass plaque, set into a beaded gilt wood frame. An attractive display.
