Description:

GEORGE IVA.L.S. 2pp., 4to, from Carlton House, London, June 22, 1815 on the conclusion of the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon's second and final defeat. In part: "...The glorious news which has this moment reached me has, at the same time, been accompanied with the distressing intelligence of the State of my most excellent and much-loved friend. Frederick Howard [son of Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle], who fell, most gallantly leading a division of my regiment...". Boldly signed "George PR" while George reigned as Prince Regent through his father's final years of blinded madness. Inexplicably stained pink throughout, wear to margins, a bit fragile, and ink a bit faded, just good. Offered as is.
