(1833-1863) Union major general who served at 1st Bull Run and was mortally wounded at Fort Wagner in July 1863. A rare war-date carte-de-visite of Brig. Gen. Strong standing and wearing his regulation uniform. Photographer's imprint by Anthony from Brady negative, NYC on the verso. Strong was severely wounded in the hip on July 18, 1863 during the battle of Battery Wagner. Refusing to stay in a local hospital, Strong left for New York City without permission and developed lockjaw upon reaching there. He died soon afterwards. Minor upper corner clips, else very good.
