Description:

GEN. OMAR BRADLEY'S SWAGGER STICK
OMAR N. BRADLEY (1893 - 1981) American general of World War II who commanded the largest ground force ever led by one man. He was later Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. A great relic once belonging to Bradley, his 20,5 in. tortoise shell swagger stick which Bradley would have carried with him as a symbol of his authority. The tortoise shell itself is thin, as is always the case, and the underlying support appears is wood with a yellow paper wrapper, possibly of wartime or immediate postwar construction. The swagger stick is accompanied by a 1989 letter of provenance from noted collector Stephen M. Henry of Warrenton, Va., a historian as well as a consultant to and writer for 'North South Trader' for decades. In his letter, Henry notes that he obtained the swagger stick from the manager of the sale of Bradley's Washington residence, one Peter Eichmann. Bradley had remarried after the death of his first wife, and his second wife, Kitty Bradley, had desired to maintain her residence in California. Thus, the Washington home and most of its contents were sold, including this swagger stick which remains in fine condition.
