GEN. FRANZ HALDER'S WARTIME MAP CASE WITH PENCILS
FRANZ HALDER (1884–1972) German general and the chief of staff of the Army High Command (OKH) from 1938-1942. He directed the planning and implementation of Operation Barbarossa, the 1941 invasion of the Soviet Union. A historic military relic, Halder's military-issue black leather map case with two mechanical pencils, all certainly used by him during the war years. The map case measures 8.5 x 10 x 2 in. with an intact black strap and buckle at front, and two belt or strap loops on the reverse. Beneath the front strap the case is embossed the the [illegible] name of the maker in Hannover, the year '1934', and a Waffenamt. Within the case is a partition with three pen holders. Included also are two mechanical pencils, steel, with a Damascus type finish. Overall very good.
