Description:

(d. 1991) American Brigadier General and career officer, saw infantry combat service from World War II to the mid-1960s, finally serving as Assistant Division Commander of the famous 77th Infantry Division from 1958 to 1964. His US Army, 1942 Pattern, Officer's, Summer, Tropical Worsted, Khaki Service Coat, certainly worn post-war, bearing a single Brigadier General's stars on each epaulette, un-hallmarked and show edge scuffing -evidence of much wear. Each upper collar lapel has matching and hallmarked 'US' pin insignia, while each lower collar lapel has the crossed rifle insignia of Infantry service, both hallmarked and are very slightly, mismatched. There is a Presidential Unit Citation ribbon pinned above the top right breast pocket. Pinned above his left breast pocket is a sterling "Expert Infantry Badge" which was awarded to the 100th Infantry Division. The upper right sleeve has a cloth patch for former combat service in the 100th Infantry Division., the left shoulder bearing a patch for current service in the 77th Infantry Division. Sewn above his left breast pocket are his khaki-backed award ribbons, identified as the 'Legion of Merit Medal', the 'Bronze Star Medal' with one oak leaf cluster and which is missing a second device, the 'American Campaign Medal', the 'European/African/Middle Eastern Campaign Medal'with three bronze stars, the 'Army of Occupation Medal', the 'WWII Victory Medal', and the 'Armed Forces Reserve Medal' with ten years of service device. This uniform is custom tailored, with a half-lining that is partially quilted with internal pocket flaps. Above the inside pockets is a 'Custom Tailored' cloth tag. Inside an interior pocket is another cloth name tag, inked 'W. Esbitt'. Sold with his matching khaki color trousers, with matching cloth tags. To help complete this uniform, our consigner has added a proper June 23rd, 1948 dated Officer's shirt, an Officer's Khaki belt and buckle, an Officer's dark color tie, and a proper Army Green color Officer's visor cap. Also sold with seventeen pages of biographical military career information, which delineates all of General Esbitt's long Army career - including all of his WWII Combat assignments. Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
