Description:
70. BIRKETT D. FRY (1822-1891) Confederate brigadier general who, while a colonel, was wounded at Seven Pines, Antietam, Chancellorsville, and finally Pickett Charge at Gettysburg. War-date partly printed D.S. "B D Fry" adding rank, 1p. 4to., Augusta, Ga., Oct. 22, 1864, approving a special requisition for clothing for "negroes employed on defenses of Augusta." It is likely that the "negroes" referred to in this document were free and being paid directly by the CSA Government. Document is additionally signed twice by L.P. Grant. An unusual document with some toning, in very good condition. $1,200-1,500
