Description:

FREDERIC REMINGTON
(1861 - 1909) American painter, illustrator and artist remembered for his works based on western themes, most notably his sculpture Broncho Buster and his paintings Last Stand and A Dash For the Timber. Original pencil drawing executed on a 4 1/2" x 6" sheet depicting three men astride horses, captioned "Going into marsh". Remington describes the scene, in which he apparently was a participant: "....Capt. Anderson got a rather bad fall...We walked on the steepest part of hill...very careful about going into swamp...". On the verso he quotes a friend: "Any man who can't eat bacon can't fight...It makes a soldier brave...". Very good.
