(1882 - 1945) Thirty-second President of the United States who instituted the "New Deal" programs and who led the United States through most of World War II. T.L.S. as President on White House letterhead and marked "Private", 1p. 8vo., Washington, Jan. 7, 1938, to Dr. Emil Ludwig. In part: "...Please accept my thanks for your kind holiday greeting which I heartily reciprocate. I am, of course, following your study week by week with very keen interest and appreciate deeply your sympathetic understanding and generous treatment of the subject. I shall always remember with pleasure the association with you...". German author Emil Ludwig (1881-1948) was principally known for his biographies, notably Roosevelt's titled A Study in Fortune and Power, published the year of this letter. Light toning to edges, mounting traces to left margin on verso, else boldly signed and very good.
