Description:

Hopkinson" and "Robt. Morris" on a D.S. 1p. folio, Philadelphia, July 5, 1786 providing for the payment to a Peter Kurtz for repair of the organ at Christ Church in Philadelphia. In part: "...Whereas the Organ in Christ Church hath been lately repaired & tuned by order of Vestry; & Whereas it hath been suggested that be very considerable and necessary Improvement be made in the said Organ at the small Expense of Seventy five Pounds, by the addition of what is called a Pedal usual in most Church Organs; which Improvement however did not fall within the orders of Vestry for repairing & tuning that noble Instrument: We the Subscribers desirous of having the use of the Organ in our Church Service, in as great perfection as may be, do hereby engage to pay...Mr. Peter Kurtz..." Signed by thirty-one members of the congregation beneath the statement. Fold separations repaired on verso, light stains along folds, overall condition very good.
