Description:

Francis Hopkinson 1737-1791 Signer of the Declaration of Independence, active in pre-Revolutionary agitation and had an important part in designing the American flag. A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Philadelphia, Dec. 8, 1785 to Joseph Borden of Borden Town [New Jersey] concerning financial affairs. In part: ...I never heard of this Mr. Linford before - you did wrong to neglect him - if he had authority to settle your accounts you should by all means have taken advantage of it & got the Business in some forwardness... hire some skilfull [sic] persons to arrange your Papers... a settlement obtained on some equitable ground or other. Lightly soiled and worn at folds but professionally reinforced on verso, seal tear in left margin affects a few letters of text.
