(1836 - 1886) Noted Union officer, aid-de-camp to Generals Mansfield, Pope & Hooker. Brevetted lieutenant- colonel for gallantry at the Wilderness and Spotsylvania. An unusual partly-printed D.S. 1p. oblong 8bo., Head Quarters, Military Department of Washington, July 21, 1861, the day of the climactic battle of First Bull Run (First Manassas), a pass issued to "Mr Kimball 3 days over the Bridges & within the Original lines of the Army By order of General Mansfield." Signed " A. Kimball" on the verso. Heavily toned at bottom margin with some erosion resulting in some loss, usual folds, else very good condition .Housed in a simple frame showing recto and verso.
